I decided to tackle the term “Kanban roadmap” once again — let’s please end this.

Hello, welcome to Drea Says Product Things, my name is Andrea, and today we’re going to talk about product terms that don’t exist.

Somehow this happened again. Apparently, “Kanban Roadmap” is now a thing.

I actually discovered this a little while ago, but I’m gonna try to break this down in two minutes or less.

So first of all, Kanban, super high level. It’s a way for you to understand work and progression of work in a way that allows your team to understand capacity, and also unblock as much of that work as possible so that you can be really, really efficient in delivering whatever it is that you’re trying to do.

Your roadmap is about direction, intention, and influence.

It is there for you to be able to explain how you might be able to reach that product strategy that you’ve set forth.

So while your Kanban board focuses on delivery, your roadmap is gonna focus on strategy.
